{"id":2,"date":"2025-11-01T09:53:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-01T09:53:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/preparedcello.com\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-04-07T17:08:46","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T17:08:46","slug":"mauro-basilio-bio","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/index.php\/mauro-basilio-bio\/","title":{"rendered":"Mauro Basilio &#8211; BIO"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-1024x576.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37\" srcset=\"https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-1024x576.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-300x169.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-768x432.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-1536x863.jpeg 1536w, https:\/\/preparedcello.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Mauro_Basilio-9-copie-2048x1151.jpeg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">Originally from Italy,<strong> I<\/strong>&nbsp;have pursued a highly diverse musical education: cello, guitar, oud, early instruments (luths, fiddles, chalumeaux), percussions (frame drums, stick drums), and computer-assisted music.<br>This multifaceted approach has led me to explore intersections between early and contemporary music, written and improvised forms, and to engage in film and stage music composition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">Since 1996, in&nbsp;<strong>Turin<\/strong>, I have worked with the ensemble \u201c<strong>Galinverna<\/strong>\u201d on researching early and traditional music, resulting in the release of five CDs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">In 2004, I founded and began directing the \u201c<strong>Orchestra di Porta Palazzo<\/strong>\u201d, a multicultural big band bringing together musicians from migrant backgrounds in Turin; in 2008, I joined the progressive folk group \u201c<strong>Tendach\u00ebnt<\/strong>\u201d, led by folk revival pioneer Maurizio Martinotti; in 2009, I began collaborating with world music artist Tate Nsongan in his Trio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">I moved to&nbsp;<strong>Berlin<\/strong>&nbsp;in 2010, where I created the concept \u201c<strong>Imaginary Africa<\/strong>\u201d, a multi-format project (ranging from solo to quartet) that blends African music, jazz, electro, rock, and free improvisation, and occasionally incorporates live painting or dance performances. In 2017, I released the album<strong>&nbsp;Imaginary Africa Trio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">In 2017, I was invited to collaborate with Italian singer&nbsp;<strong>Mara Redeghieri<\/strong>&nbsp;on the recording of the album Recidiva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">Based in&nbsp;<strong>Paris<\/strong>&nbsp;since 2013, I am a member of the free-jazz big band \u201c<strong>Healing Orchestra<\/strong>\u201d led by Paul Wacrenier. I also accompany singer Celinn in her animist pop music and singer Haim Isaacs in a concert focused on the songs of Joni Mitchell. I collaborate with numerous musicians in improvisational music projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">I compose, perform live, or record music for shows, documentaries, and films, he collaborate with various circus, theatre, and dance companies (including&nbsp;<strong>Acad\u00e9mie Fratellini<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Compagnie Oposito,<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>L\u2019Envol\u00e9e Cirque<\/strong>, among others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-base-background-color has-background wp-block-paragraph\">I recorded my prepared cello and contributed creative ideas to the original soundtrack of the TV series Devil in Disguise (USA, 2025), produced by Peacock.
