A prepared cello is a cello whose sound has been deliberately altered by placing objects on, between, or against its strings or body, or by using unconventional playing techniques.
The idea is closely related to the John Cage’s concept of the prepared piano, but adapted for the cello.
The goal is to produce new timbres, pitches, and percussive effects beyond the instrument’s standard sound.
